The Post Dispensary, Beaver Dam, opened on December 13, and its limited inventory was exhausted by December 20. Owner Trip Hoffman, told Spectrum News 1, that the dispensary had sold out within the time frame he expected. Hoffman told Spectrum News that the sale was in line with his expectations.
“We sold out within seven days,” Hoffman
Spectrum News. “I thought it was exactly what I had planned.” Some patients arrived with camping chairs and sleeping bags as early as five in the morning on opening day. Hoffman set strict limits on the number of units per person to stretch supplies. Staff were still surprised at how quickly the inventory was moved, and by patients’ reactions. They said that they wanted medical cannabis to treat chronic pain or nausea. “We were happy to be a part of that.”
Spectrum attributed the sellout to constrained initial harvests from in-state cultivators, which are required under Kentucky law. Hoffman maintains strong ties with his suppliers, Farmtucky, Dark Horse and others, and anticipates new deliveries from January 15 to 20. The store is expected to reopen soon after the deliveries arrive. Spectrum reported that the closure coincided with holidays, which gave staff an unexpected break and allowed time to fine-tune the state’s tracking system from seed-to-sale. The Post, as the first dispensary in Kentucky to open, helped resolve early technical problems that would benefit other operators.toldMore are expected to follow. Three more dispensaries will open in January and the majority of Kentucky’s 48 licensed outlets should be operational within a few months. The market is booming, the product is moving quickly, and the supply needs to catch up.
