Brain fog is like a mist that stops you from going anywhere. It slows you down, makes you feel lethargic, adds confusion, and even makes you forget where you wanted to go.

You need to clear up this mist called brain fog and get a hold of your ability to think.

Your ability to think and focus gives you an edge in the world. Don’t let brain fog take that away from you.

What are the signs of brain fog?

Do you actually have brain fog?  Well, let me ask you a few questions.

Have you ever experienced any of these:

  • Getting triggered with ease
  • Making mental errors
  • Not able to focus
  • Can’t remember things
  • Fumbling words

They are just the symptoms of things much deeper.

Why does brain fog happen?

Brain fog is a symptom of many different causes, some of which are –

Poor Mental Health

Your mental state is important for having good cognitive abilities. Anxiety and depression can weaken cognitive function as they deplete energy from the brain, which makes it harder for the brain to function.

Anxiety and depression are like a leak in the fuel tank, which will stop you in your journey, which is already hard due to the mist (brain fog). Stop the leak before you move forward in your journey.

Sleep Deprivation

Sleep is essential for maintaining good health and optimal brain function. People with poor sleep have a high correlation with mental and physical problems.

From the time you wake up in the morning till you go to sleep, there is toxic waste building up in your brain. It is called the beta-amyloid metabolite. During sleep, the cerebrospinal fluid removes the beta-amyloid metabolite in the brain, which resets the brain and makes it ready for the next day.

Food is fuel for the brain. When you have a nutritional deficiency, your brain does not have enough fuel to work with, and all your cognitive abilities dull down. Your energy dips, there is no ability to retain information, and simple tasks take a lot of time.

Hormonal Imbalances

Hormones dictate your health, from muscle building to getting sleep , be it working with your full potential or feeling energetic, everything is based on your hormones. When your hormones get disrupted, they may lead to poor health, brain fog, breakouts, and many other problems.

Medications

Medications can mess you up.  If you take certain medications that might not be suited for you, then you can experience negative effects, which lead to brain fog and other problems. Always make sure to have proper consultation with a doctor before taking any medication and  follow the prescription to avoid the negative effects.

Autoimmune conditions

They can cause inflammation, which affects the brain, leading to declined memory and reduced brain function.

Dehydration

No Rest / Improper Rest

When a car is running without any servicing, it will encounter a system failure.

Even a car needs rest. You need even more rest and care than a machine.

Unclench your jaw, sit in silence, take a nap. Resting will help you recover from the wear and tear of the day and help you recharge until your next task or work.

When you don’t rest and keep on working, you will get burnout, and that will take a hard toll on your body, mind, your relationship with your family, friends, and also your work.

Drink Coffee – It provides temporary relief from brain fog as the coffee blocks adenosine receptors, which are responsible for sleep, but it can give you a crash later on.

Tea – It has caffeine, and also L- theanine makes you alert and relaxed at the same time. Tea is a good alternative to coffee for countering brain fog.

Natural Hydration – Coconut water, Lemonade, and Lassi give your body real hydration that modern normal water can’t provide.   They help to refresh the brain and actually hydrate you.

7 Steps to Remove Brain Fog

Step 1:  Sleep Well

Sleep is when your body recharges and rejuvenates. Your brain resets and rests to perform for the next day.

Sleep is the most important part of your brain health and overall health. Once you sleep well, brain fog will be reduced a lot, and your other health problems will also be gone.

To get good sleep, make sure to do these things:

  • Eat 3 hours before going to sleep.
  • Stop drinking water 2 hours before bed.
  • Avoid blue light from  devices and room light 1 hour before you sleep
  • Stretch your body and have a bath.
  • Relax your mind with deep breathing.

Following these steps will help you increase your sleep quality, which is good for your brain health.

Step 2 : Nutrition

Your brain uses more energy compared to any other organ; if the energy is not there, the functioning will slow down.

Have timely nutritious meals along with specific foods that improve brain function, like : Almonds, walnuts, eggs, and fish.

Step 3 : Hydration

Water isn’t enough.

You might have noticed that even though you drink water, you are still thirsty and need to drink more water to feel some relief.

Even slight brain dehydration causes cognitive decline. For true hydration, you need more than just plain water.

Drinks like lassi , coconut water, and lemonade are better alternatives as they help retain the water content in the body and make you actually hydrated.

Consume foods that have lots of water content in them. Food like watermelon, orange, cucumber, and more. The water in these foods is better retained in your body, and you won’t feel as thirsty.

Step 4: Move Your Body

Don’t stay sedentary.  Move from time to time. Sitting for long hours might seem necessary for work, but it doesn’t have to be that way.  Take breaks. Walk a bit. Jog. Dance or play  because a sedentary lifestyle reduces the blood flow in your body, especially to the brain, which slows down your cognitive abilities and also leads to brain fog if you sit for long hours at a time.

Step 5: Relax Your Mind

Journal  – Write down your thoughts. When you do, your brain heals and gets relaxed.

Focus on one thing. Constant shifting between tasks is not good for your brain. It leads to –

  • Poor Performance
  • Increased stress
  • Wasted time
  • Tired brain

The conscious mind is not meant for multitasking. If you try to do multiple things at once, you put a lot of strain on your brain.  Do one task at a time. Your brain will thank you, and work will be done on time.  

Meditation helps to quiet the mind, reduce stress, and also improve brain function.

Step 6: Balance Your Hormones

Balance your hormones by being in sync with nature- Wake up on time. Watch the Sun rise and let the early morning sun rays shower on your body.

Stop drinking from a plastic bottle. Reduce wearing synthetic clothes made from polyester and switch to cotton , wool, hemp, and other organic materials.

Walk barefoot on the grass – This lowers inflammation in your body and keeps you centered.
